Supporters past and present
Over the years we have all seen supporters that stand out for whatever reason.

Which ones stand out for you? What memorable characters do you remember?

For me two old lady's that stood same place every game right art the front of the old North Bank. As a kid i would always see them and always hear them moaning for 90mins. They took a crate to stand on.

The obvious one is the peanut man but not sure if he comes under a supporter.

I remember standing next to an old boy in the West Side late 70’s who lit up a cigarette and before he finished it pulled out another cigarette from the packet and used the lit butt to light the next fag. This went on through half time then he produced a second packet from his other coat pocket and continued.

I thought he must take a breather at some point, but he kept going. I was a smoker myself at the time but have never seen anything like it until this day and eventually moved away further along the terrace as I couldn’t stand the constant smoke which was making me feel queasy. I had heard the expression chain smoker but this old boy literally was one, could have smoked for England.

We took the kids one time in the TBL. We were sat next to this little old couple - rain macs, shopping bag, the works. Half Time came, and the old dear pulled two foil wrapped packs of sandwiches from the shopping bag. Then a thermos flask... she removed the cups from the top, passed one to the old boy, then reached across and passed the other to my mate! They had to hold them still while she filled them with tea from the flask. Then she reached across and took the full cup back from my mate, and they settled down to their snack!
All this took place without a single word being exchanged. They never said Please or Thanks - in fact, the two of them never spoke, to each other or anyone else, throughout the game, nor did they 'react' to any events on the pitch either! Very odd...

The pissed up bloke who used to sing "There's only one Trevor Brooking" at away games. Trev had only been retired for about 20 years.

he used to sit in the BML and do that quite often while slapping his bald head.

Also used to see a geezer absolutely fucking smashed up there quite a bit who seemed to always have a bag of laundry.

We used to think he’d told his old woman he was going up the launderette and would just get leathered at football.

Wearing his trademark claret and blue lumberjacket with fur collar that once was white and his Hammers bobble hat that was literally rotting on is head I imagine.

Someone told me Marco Boogers lived in his matted beard for a few weeks but I think they were drunk.

How the fuck his trainers without most of the sole stayed on his feet I will never know.

I was stood near that fella on the last game of the season against Wolves (when Brady scored that cracker). It was a very warm day..... he was chucking up good and proper. Most of the people around me had their hands over their noses.

Re: Supporters past and present

The West Ham Tramp graduated from the North Bank to the BMU. He was a season ticket holder. He sat next to me on a packed District Line back in the late 90s travelling to a midweek game. Arsenal if I remember correctly.

I'm fucking scratching as I write......

I will give you two , a fella called Ron who used to run a tidy little firm on the South Bank in the 70's well dressed proper nasty old school West Ham , and "the coach" used to stand half way between the north bank and the middle of the chicken run in the 90's used to shout instructions to all the players .

Any old timer's like me would remember Paddy running around trying to collect the balls just before kick off.
Our Bobby used to give him a shit pass back just to make him struggle a bit more.

I believe his name was Brian and he never missed an away match. He passed away about 5 or 6 years ago.

I also remember the ‘There’s only one Trevor Brooking’ character.

I also remember another character who used to open beer bottles with his teeth on the away coaches. This was, of course, the 70’s and 80’s. His top front two were missing and he praised the caps off by placing the cap within the gap! ‘Ouch!’

I also remember a well dressed, sophisticated woman who used to stand in the same place on the north bank every game on her own. She was very attractive and I used to wonder if she went out with one of the players

Years ago there was a bird in the BML who used scream abuse the entire game, cunt this cunt that. She was a right character and looked proper hard all dms and that. Me and my dad used to chuckle when she’d kick off.

Anyway years after this I bought a ticket on here for a game at Cardiff and when I met them it turned out to be the bird from the BML from all those years before.
